World War II, an age of great progress in industry and the world was in a travel frenzy like never before...
Some on the move willingly, others, sadly, were under threat of death. And there in the Golden West of the good ol' USA was the peaceful landscape of sunshine and sleek modern trains running on time...
I scanned these wonderful images for you from a tan pictorial folder housing 15 of 16 hand coloured photo prints. "Scenic Grandeur of the West" was probably the sole edition of this handsome set of prints depicting "points of interest along Southern Pacific Lines." Another time and another place, thankfully recorded by some great folks in San Francisco: The National Color Press, 1943. Enjoy the trip through time!
